monitor problem

I installed vista beta 2:
Intel p4 3.2 GHZ 2048 mb ram 3x 160 GB HDD Maxtor nvidia 6800 128 mb monitor, IIyama HM903DAT
the problem is the my screen keeps turning on and off. I also installed the latest nvidia driver. My PC is dual boot and under windows XP there is no problem with the screen.

wrote this below, sorry for the redundancy, "The problem may be with the Nvidia driver. With the 5200, I can't even boot, had to go into safe mode, "update" the driver to Standard VGA for now. It's not a good workaround but will live with it for now."

Have you installed the NVIDIA Vista Beta 2 Driver from the following link?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_88.61.html

Yeah, I think my card might just be too old and ready for upgrade. I was going to try next driver release first though.

I note that the 88.61 release notes DO list the 5200 as one of the suported cards, but I didn't read all of notes to see if there may be a known problem that would effect it. How much memory do you have on the card?

256 with a gig RAM. Card works great in XP and 2K. Motherboard and CPU drivers seem to have loaded fine, all signed. No issues with the OS when using the VGA driver can go 1600x1200 but not the same, can't change refresh, no directdraw acceleration, direct3d acceleration, no nvidia control panel. Got a better workaround. Went into dev mgr to update driver, selected list all devices and tried some of the other Nvidia drivers. The Nvidia 256 driver works on this comp.

I am having the same problem with my install... Asus P5ND2 board P4 3.0gHz, 1GB RAM, with a GeForce 7600GT 256MB RAM, with dual screens. I have the latest x64 drivers from Nvidia, and have done a clean install of Vista build 5384.
The primary monitor will begin flashing on and off, as if someone was unplugging and replugging in the monitor cable. Eventaully, Vista sees there is a problem and sets my secondary monitor as primary at default settings. Its very annoying. I have fiddled with the power settings, but the problem appears to be random.
I recently discovered that if I turn off the primary monitor as soon as is happens, and leave it off for several seconds, when I turn it back on its fine.
Things I havent checked out yet: uninstalling the Nvidia x64 drivers and going back to teh default drivers from Vista, or upgrading to the newest build.

Tony, I have the same prob on a Nvidia 7900GT and I have not been able to make it work on my primary monitor. So I got hold of some other monitors and so far it blinks annoyingly on a 19" Nokia 446PRO CRT and on a 21" Compaq P1100 CRT which are both detected as non-PnP-monitors. However, it works perfectly on a 22" Compaq P1210 CRT which Vista detects as a PnP-monitor. All monitors work flawlessly in XP.
I am not sure what to make of this, but it could seem like Nvidia/Vista has problems with some older model CRT monitors. If you have the option, try to connect other monitors to the computer where you are seeing the problem.

Is it possible that the resolution or refresh rate you have currently set is one that only the 22" Compaq can display?

No, all monitors do 1600x1200@85hz just fine and I have tried from 800x600 and up - no difference.
The problem is with Nvidia graphics adapters and "some" CRT monitors. I have tried all the Nvidia drivers I could find, but they all had the same flickering on two of the CRT monitors.
